Phoenix was finally unmasked and revealed to be Ricky Wilson on Saturday’s Masked Singer.
The news came as a shock, with many convinced Phoenix was actually David Tennant, including judge Davina McCall, who incorrectly guessed twice that the Doctor Who star was inside the costume.
Following the weekend’s big reveal, Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky stopped by the Loose Women studio on Monday to talk about his time on the show, revealing David sent him a text asking who Phoenix was.
When asked whether he was surprised that judge Rita Ora didn’t guess his identity seeing as they’d worked together on The Voice, 45-year-old Ricky said: ‘No. She was the one I wanted to fool the most.’
He added: ‘I wasn’t even thinking about people at home, I just wanted to get past Rita.’
Proving how well he’d managed to fool people, the rocker then added: ‘David [Tennant] actually texted me and said, “are you the Phoenix?”’

Speaking to the Loose Women panel, Ricky also shared an insight into just how secretive the Masked Singer process is, explaining: ‘The fitting was in the middle of nowhere. It was so secret. It was in a church hall.’
He added: ‘They keep you in a portacabin. I just watched Law and Order on TV. I was like, “this is the best job I’ve ever had”.’
However, despite being cocooned in an enormous costume, the crooner said he still felt nervous when on stage.
‘I’ve heard people say it’s quite freeing, but I found it nerve-racking. It was no different for me, I knew I had to do a good job.’
Clearly shocked at Saturday’s reveal, Rita was kicking herself over the fact she had no clue it was Ricky who had been performing as Phoenix.
‘I’m never going to forgive you ever again,’ she joked.

‘If you sang how you sing, I would have got you in a second,’ she added.
While some were convinced David was belting out tunes as Phoenix, other people hedged their bets on people like Joe Sugg, Nicolas Hoult, Alfie Allen, Sid Owen, and even Paddy McGuinness.
