David Baddiel popped back onto Twitter following England’s World Cup loss to commiserate with fellow virtual fans after briefly quitting the social media network.
The comedian took a break from the app to avoid antisemitic hate ahead of his Channel 4 documentary release Jews Don’t Count.
Despite his hiatus, the 2-1 loss suffered by the Three Lions was too much for the star to bear and he opened up his social media profile to tweet his heartbreak.
David referenced the last time England managed to win a World Cup title and let fans in on his feelings following the defeat against France.
He penned: ‘56 years of hurt. Never stopped me oh for f**k’s sake’ as a nod to the 1966 victory over Germany by the English side.
Underneath the football lament he updated fans with: ‘I’m back btw. [sic]’

The funnyman declared his departure from the site in an attempt to avoid an influx of antisemitic hate following the release of his deep dive into why he feels Jewish discrimination is seen as a lesser form of racism.
Chatting honestly at a Q&A, the star revealed: ‘What I will do when this film comes out is come off and give my passwords to someone else. And that is about self-protection.
‘I know this film will generate a lot of noise and some of it will be hate and some of it will definitely be antisemitic.’
The star was also questioned on whether he had considered leaving Twitter before his film release, David replied: ‘Lots of times. Hopefully, Elon Musk is destroying it now anyway, so we should be fine.’

Another penned: ‘Welcome back David. We’ve really missed you x [sic]’.
‘Hello chuckles. Good to have you back,’ was one user’s comment.
England lost to the French side in the quarter finals of the Qatar World Cup on Saturday night to the disappointment of Three Lions supporters across the globe.
Equalising with a penalty kick in the second half, Harry Kane couldn’t convert a second chance at a draw when he missed another one-on-one chance with the goalie to allow France to stay in the lead.
