Daniel Craig has said he doesn’t want Benoit Blanc’s queerness in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery to become a focal point of the new blockbuster film.
The actor brushed off comments surrounding the casual reveal of the detective’s sexuality and shared he didn’t want it to become too political.
In the sequel to the 2019 hit, the character’s love interest is uncovered when the script suggests Daniel’s role is living with a male partner.
Delighting fans, the rom-com king himself Hugh Grant answers the door to the detective’s London flat and confirms the sexuality of Benoit.
Chatting to Deadline, the 54-year-old actor exclaimed he didn’t want to make a big deal of his part’s queerness: ‘It’s all good.
‘The less of a song and dance we make about that, the better, really, for me, because it just made sense.’

He continued: ‘And also, as I said at the [BFI London Film Festival], who wouldn’t want to live with the human being that he happens to live with?
‘It’s nice, it’s fun. And why shouldn’t it be?
‘I don’t want people to get politically hung up on anything.’
The James Bond star’s comments came after the film’s director Rian Johnson spoke out on his decision to develop the character’s story in the way that he did.
During a press conference at last month’s London Film Festival, the director was asked whether the famous sleuth was queer.

The American filmmaker answered: ‘Yes, he obviously is.
‘And there’s nobody in the world I can imagine bringing me more joy for Benoit Blanc to be with.
‘No spoilers, [but] who wouldn’t want to live with that person?’
Set to rival its predecessor at the box office, the new mystery movie also stars the likes of Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline and Leslie Odmar Jr.
Netflix offered up a synopsis that gave fans a taste of what was in store.
It read of the story that was shot to replicate a lavish estate on a private Greek island: ‘Blanc soon meets a distinctly disparate group of friends gathering at the invitation of billionaire Miles Bron for their yearly reunion.’
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery premieres November 23-29 in select cinemas and on Netflix December 23.
