First coronavirus cases confirmed in the UK
BBC News reports two people have tested positive for the coronavirus in the UK the chief medical officer for England has announced.
Both people are members of the same family and are receiving specialist care.
Prof Chris Whitty, chief medical officer for England said: “The NHS is extremely well-prepared and used to managing infections and we are already working rapidly to identify any contacts the patients had, to prevent further spread.
“We have been preparing for UK cases of novel coronavirus and we have robust infection control measures in place to respond immediately,” he added.

‘No such proposal’: Islamabad rejects ‘speculation’ over alleged plan to integrate Pakistan-held part of Kashmir
RT News says Pakistan has denied it is planning to merge the territory it administers in Kashmir with the rest of the country.
“There is no such proposal under consideration,” Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said. She was responding to media reports that Islamabad is allegedly seeking to integrate Azad Jammu and Kashmir into Pakistan.
The media have been speculating since December after the region’s prime minister reportedly suggested that he could become the last to hold the post in the autonomous territory.

Impeachment trial to end but its aftershocks will rock America
CNN declares America’s latest “national nightmare” will not end when Republicans vote to acquit President Trump of high crimes and misdemeanours.
Trump is gearing up to get on with his term as the third US President to be impeached by the House of Representatives and not removed by the Senate.
CNN says given Trump’s political temperament and the battle for the White House it seems unlikely there will be a healing voice to help the deeply divided country.
Trump is set to skip free despite strong evidence to suggest that he abused the public trust by trying to coerce a foreign power – with millions of dollars in taxpayer cash – to play a role in the US Presidential election.

Police kill man holding 20 women and children hostage in north India
Arab News reports police have shot dead a man holding around 20 women and children hostage at his house in northern India.
The man was shot dead after a 10-hour standoff with police, state officials have said.
The hostages were held at gunpoint but are all confirmed to be safe. The hostage-taker was serving a life sentence for murder and was out on parole.

Mighty Ducks goalkeeper Shaun Weiss arrested for burglary while ‘high on meth’
ITV News says former child actor Shaun Weiss, 40, has been arrested by police California on suspicion of burglary and being under the influence of methamphetamine at 7 am.
Police were called on Sunday morning to a report of an intruder inside a man’s garage in Marysville.
Weiss bail was set at £40,000. The Marysville Police Department released a mugshot of the almost unrecognisable Mighty Duck.
