Brothers jailed in Australia for meat grinder plot
France24 reports two brothers were handed lengthy jail terms in Australia for plotting to bring down a Sydney to Abu Dhabi flight with a bomb carried in a meat grinder by their unwitting brother.
The brothers were convicted of terrorism offences for trying to bomb an Etihad Airways passenger jet in July 2017. Khaled was sentenced to 40 years with a minimum of 30 years without parole, his brother Mahmoud received 36 years with at least 27 served.
The bomb was to be smuggled inside the luggage of a third, unwitting brother.
Khaled and Mahmoud disapproved of their brother “because he drank, went clubbing, gambled and was gay, which they regarded as bringing shame on the family”, judge Christine Adamson noted.

Roadside bombing kills 10 civilians in Afghanistan
Arab News says a roadside bombing in eastern Afghanistan killed 10 civilians on Tuesday including women and children.
A vehicle they were riding in detonated a bomb an official has said.
The spokesman for the Interior Ministry, Nasrat Rahimi, said the explosion took place in eastern Khost province, in the district of Ali Sher. He said three children, two women and five men were killed.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Rahimi has blamed the Taliban.

Brexit bill to block further delay to transition
BBC News reports the government is to add a new clause to the Brexit bill to make it illegal for Parliament to extend the process beyond the end of next year.
The post-Brexit transition period – due to conclude in December 2020 – can currently be extended for up to two years.
But an amended Withdrawal Agreement Bill the Commons is set to vote on this week will rule out any extension.
Critics say this raises the chance of leaving the EU without a trade deal.

US remains divided on impeachment as House vote approaches
CNN says the US is split over whether President Trump should be impeached and removed from office, according to results from a poll conducted by SSRS. 
Support for impeaching and removing him from office stands at 45% in the new poll, down from 50% in a poll conducted in mid-November just after the conclusion of the House Intelligence Committee’s public hearings.
Opposition to impeachment and removal stands at 47% in the new poll, up from 43% in November.

‘I hate Twitter’ Meltdown over PewDiePie ‘quitting’ and ‘deleting’ account only seems to prove his point on social media ‘fiction’
RT News says popular Youtuber PewDiePie announced he’s taking a break from the platform next year but he’s also given Twitter the cold shoulder too.
On Sunday, the vlogger posted a video criticising YouTube’s new harassment policy and said he was “feeling very tired” and wanted to give his fans a heads-up that he’ll be taking a break.
On Monday, he then published a 7-minute long video to his YouTube account detailing his dislike of Twitter, particularly the propensity among many of its users for intense virtue signalling and piling up the drama.
