Future of talks unclear after Afghan security forces deaths
Arab News says Taliban guerrillas have killed up to 25 members of the Afghan security forces in the Ghazni province, officials said on Sunday.
An escalation of attacks by insurgents has left even the fate of peace talks with the US unclear.
The provincial council of Ghazni said that 25 local military staff on the payroll of the Defense Ministry died in the assault on Saturday, the ministry put the losses at nine.
There were conflicting accounts about the nature of the attack. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the incident.

Police fire tear gas at Delhi protesters decrying citizenship law
Aljazeera News says Indian police fired tear gas and resorted to baton charges to disperse thousands of demonstrators, including students, in New Delhi as protests against a new citizenship law continued for a fifth day across the country.
The death toll from the violent protests against the law in India rose to six on Sunday. Internet bans and curfews are still in place in some northeastern regions.
According to a Reuters news agency witness police reportedly used baton charges and tear gas to break up protesters in south Delhi. The stretch of road the protesters had gathered on was strewn with glass, stones, broken bits of bricks and overturned motorcycles.

Death toll in Iran crackdown exceeds 300, Amnesty says
France24 reports at least 304 people were killed in Iran during a three-day crackdown against protests across the country in November, according to an Amnesty International toll.
Iran has dismissed the figures as “utter lies.”
Amnesty said it collected “harrowing testimony” suggesting that after authorities “massacred” protesters, they orchestrated a “wide-scale clampdown” to cover up the deaths.
“Iran’s authorities are carrying out a vicious crackdown following the outbreak of nationwide protests on 15 November,” the London-based rights watchdog said in a statement.

Greta Thunberg apologises for ‘against the wall’ remark, plans a break from climate activism
Fox News says Greta Thunberg, 16, apologised on Saturday after telling a crowd of young supporters a day earlier that politicians should be put “against the wall.”
Critics say the remark was advocating for violence against world leaders who dodge their responsibilities to fight climate change.
“We have to make sure that they cannot do that,” Thunberg told the crowd. “We will make sure they, that we put them against the wall, and that they will have to do their job and to protect our futures.”

‘Armed’ man shot in Hull street by police
BBC News reports a man is in a critical condition after being shot in the street by police.
Officers were called to reports of a man “believed to be in possession of a firearm” in Hull in the early hours of Sunday.
Humberside Police Assistant Chief Constable Paul Anderson said he did not believe the incident had any connections to terrorism.
The force added no one else was injured in the incident.

The Guardian says Taylor Swift will close the 2020 Glastonbury festival with a headline performance on the Pyramid stage on Sunday night.
“I’m ecstatic to tell you that I’ll be headling Glastonbury on its 50th anniversary – See you there!” Swift tweeted.
