Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister has described Qatar 2022 as ‘the worst ever’ World Cup after Argentina were crowned champions with Lionel Messi cementing his claim to be regarded as the GOAT.
While the now former Manchester United forward has taken a social media vow of silence in the aftermath of Sunday’s final, Ronaldo’s sibling, Katia Aveiro, could not avoid lashing out after watching her brother ridiculed and, in her eyes, disrespected.
Ronaldo’s tournament ended in ignominy after he stormed off the pitch in tears following Portugal’s quarter-final defeat against Morocco, prior to which he had been dropped by Fernando Santos for an act of defiance in the group stage defeat against South Korea.
Aveiro, meanwhile, could not bring herself to offer words of praise to Ronaldo’s long-time rival Messi but did congratulate Kylian Mbappe who became the first man since Sir Geoff Hurst in 1966 to score a World Cup final hat-trick.
Aveiro wrote on her Instagram stories: ‘The worst World Cup of all time… that thankfully gave us a great final. What a match. Congratulations to Argentina.’
In addition, she claimed: ‘Kylian Mbappe. This boy is unreal. What a bright future awaits you. Incredible.’
Ronaldo arrived in Qatar hot on the heels of his explosive interview with Piers Morgan which ultimately sealed his United fate with his contract terminated having slated his now former manager Erik ten Hag.

The 37-year-old remains without a club having denied he is set to sign for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia and still holding out for a move to a major European club.
Ronaldo’s former teammate, Patrice Evra, however, believes it would be no surprise if the five-times Ballon d’Or winner calls time on his illustrious career.
‘I don’t know [what he will do next].
‘That must be a feeling, especially when you are not in the starting XI of your national team, because that is what Cristiano wanted; to play, be fit and to win the World Cup with his country.
‘This was his dream; now he doesn’t have that dream. Although I won’t talk for Cristiano, I wouldn’t be surprised if he says he is retiring.
‘Now everything Cristiano does he is a ‘bad person’, a ‘bad player’ or whatever. I wouldn’t be surprised if he decides to retire.’
