The Daily Telegraph leads with the government ‘forced into retreat’ over the plans for new lockdowns ‘unravel’. The paper reports on Tim Parker quitting his role as National Trust chief and an update on London’s BLM activist Sasha Johnson, who was shot in the head on Sunday.

Online, the headlines are heavily dominated by the highly-anticipated Dominic Cummings committee meeting, in which he is expected to ‘spill’ secrets as he is summoned to answer questions about the government’s handling of the pandemic.

Farce as plans for new lockdowns unravel

The Daily Telegraph’s front page leads with the government being “forced into retreat” over “local lockdowns” when it updated the advice for the areas in England worst-hit by the Indian variant.

The paper adds that a “Whitehall blame game erupted” after ministers “failed to pass on the new advice” to local leaders.

One insider tells the Daily Telegraph it was the Department of Health and Social Care’s responsibility.

National Trust chief resigns amid ‘woke’ revolt

The front page also features the news Tim Parker, the chief of the National Trust, has resigned.

The paper says Parker quit “amid a revolt among its members” over the charity’s “woke” policies. Parker quit just 24 hours after a rebel group of members set out plans to force him out.

Islands may be on green list even if country remains on amber

The paper says ministers have pledged to open up island tourist destinations to British holidaymakers even if Covid prevents an entire country from joining the green list.

The move could see Canary, Balearic and Greek Islands added to the UK’s green list whilst Spain and Greece remain on amber.

Shot BLM activist facing race charge

Sasha Johnson – the UK Black Lives Matter activist- who was shot in the head, in what police are suggesting was not a targeted incident, was being prosecuted on race charges, the paper says.

Johnson was being prosecuted for racially harassing a police officer during a protest last year.

    Headlines from the Telegraph Online.

‘Dom bombs’: What secrets will Cummings spill when he faces MPs today?

The Telegraph Online says: “Westminster will fall silent when Boris Johnson’s former aide appears before a super-committee investigating coronavirus.”

The article believes Dominic Cummings could spend up to four hours giving evidence to MPs today as he is set to spill the secrets on what went on behind the scenes of the government’s handling of the pandemic.
