Alya thinks Ryan needs to focus more on his recovery (Pictures: ITV)
Coronation Street’s Sair Khan and Ryan Prescott have worked together for years on the ITV soap, creating a strong connection for their characters, Alya Nazir and Ryan Connor.
Once in a settled relationship, Ryan and Alya have gone back to being friends after it was revealed he had spent the night with Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) back in 2021.
Following Ryan’s acid attack, which happened when Justin (Andrew Still) attempted to make Daisy the victim, Alya has been a pillar of support for Ryan, paying him hospital visits and trying to make him smile.
In a recent episode of the ITV soap, Ryan sadly mistook Alya’s kindness for love, assuming that she had developed feelings for him again.
Alya told Ryan that she only sees him as a friend right now and left him heartbroken.
This storyline has only just started and already it has been praised by Corrie fans, with many pointing out how brilliant it is to see Ryan centre stage in a more emotional storyline for his character.
And Sair Khan couldn’t agree more.
‘Ryan is one of my best pals on the show, I’m so pleased that he’s having his moment to shine’, she told Metro.co.uk recently.
‘Obviously, it’s a very hard-hitting topic and storyline, I just know that Ryan is so talented and deserves this opportunity to show what he can do and with his character, it’s a very different side to Ryan as well.
‘It’s really nice playing that with him, because in the dynamic of Ryan and Alya, it’s always Alya who tends to be the more serious one, Ryan is the light-hearted one so to see him flip that, it’s been really interesting to play.’

Reflecting on everything Alya and Ryan have been through so far, Sair said: ‘It’s been such a complicated journey with those two, I think there’s such a deep love and affection there.
‘I wanted to play it that Alya does love Ryan, but she doesn’t have the capacity to give him what he needs when she is also healing from the trauma that she’s been dealing with over the past year.
‘I don’t think she’s got it right, balancing it and being there for him, there was so much going on!’

After that devastating moment for Ryan, Sair has revealed that things will change for Alya now, as she takes a step back in her friend’s recovery journey: ‘Carla is stepping up in terms of family and I think Alya needs to put up a bit of a wall in order to allow Ryan to heal, she feels like her being around may complicate that matter.
‘Alya knows that there’s a lot of love for Ryan, she feels that she can step back and knows that he’ll be alright.’
‘She still checks in with Daisy and Carla, even if she’s not physically there.’
