Desperate Ed Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges) did a terrible thing on Coronation Street recently. Deep in debt thanks to his gambling and threatened by employee Tony (Sean Cernow), Ed took all of the family’s Christmas presents from under the tree – including a Wendy house for Glory (Eleanor Beckles) – and pawned them.
His family were naturally supportive when they came home to find Ed with a cut lip (courtesy of Tony), claiming that they were burgled and he was hurt trying to fight off the burglars, but Ed was left feeling massively guilty about what he’d done.
On Christmas Day it’s heartbreaking for Ed to watch his family unwrapping the few presents that hadn’t been taken.
His shame only gets worse when he unwraps his gift from his children: a watch inscribed with ‘For the world’s best dad – our hero.’

Meanwhile Michael (Ryan Russell)’s kind-hearted colleagues at the factory have decided to do something about the family’s plight and have clubbed together to replace Glory’s Christmas present, the Wendy house.
When Sean (Antony Cotton) and Izzy (Cherylee Houston) tell Michael they got it from a pawn shop, Michael realises it’s the very same Wendy house that was stolen from his family. He tells Craig (Colson Smith), who promises that he’ll investigate.

Knowing that Craig is on the case, and full of shame for what he’s done, Ed knows that the truth will come out – and it does.
In the aftermath of the discovery the Bailey family are left reeling. Michael can’t cope with the idea that Ed would steal from his own granddaughter and wants to throw him out of the house.

Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown), meanwhile, is furious that both Joel (Calum Lill) and Ronnie (Vinta Morgan) knew that Ed had relapsed with his gambling addiction but didn’t say anything to her and let Ed think he could control it.
Todd (Gareth Pierce) sees Ed in the ginnel later and Ed decides to confide in him about what’s happened, telling him that his family now all hate him.

But he tells Todd that there’s something even worse that the family don’t know about yet – but he knows he has to come clean.
With a heavy heart Ed prepares to tell his family the truth, knowing that this could be the last straw.
