Spider puts his life in danger (Pictures: ITV)
Spider Nugent (Martin Hancock) is well aware of the risks that come with being involved in Griff Reynolds’ (Michael Condron) gang in Coronation Street.
We know, of course, that Spider doesn’t really agree with Griff’s racist and far-right views – he’s part of the group because he’s working as an undercover police officer, gathering enough evidence to eventually bring them down.
Due to the fact Spider needs to keep his true identity a secret, it’s meant he’s sort of allowed Max (Paddy Bever) to be manipulated by Griff. A friendly reminder that Spider is the good guy during this tale and because he’s aware of what’s happening, he’s keeping a close eye on the teen.
However, as a new year begins in Weatherfield, he soon realises that it’s becoming increasingly difficult.
2023 kicks off with Lily (Brooke Malonie) and Eliza (Savannah Kunyo) unknowingly getting themselves into danger by watching one of Max’s propaganda videos that have been circulating online.
Thankfully, once Stu (Bill Fellows) spots the material on Eliza’s laptop, he marches over to the Platt house to update David (Jack P Shepherd) and Shona (Julia Goulding) on what Max is currently up to.

Meanwhile, as Maria (Samia Longchambon) continues her plan to rebrand the Christmas market as a Peace Festival, Griff orders Spider to meet him at the flat – completely unaware Griff is leading him to believe he’s planning something for Maria’s meeting at the Town Hall.
As the plan begins, Spider gets a message from Max asking him to meet up urgently, but in place of Max is Griff, who knocks Spider out cold with a crowbar.
Spider walks right into the trap.
