Conservative leadership race – Ballot 4, results at 3PM! – Liz Truss new favourite
This is the second to last vote for Tory MPs, by tomorrow we’ll know who the last two candidates are in the running for No 10.
Today’s results will hopefully answer:
Has Rishi Sunak secured the 120 votes to get a place in the final two?
Where will Tom Tugendhat’s votes go?
Can Penny Mordaunt make up the ground she lost yesterday?
Penny Mordaunt and Liz Truss are battling for second place and today’s results could make it clearer who will likely get that second golden ticket.
It’s expected Kemi Badenoch will be eliminated in today’s ballot – where will her votes go? One paper even described her as something of a kingmaker, as who Ms Badenoch and her supporters decide to back will likely be through to the final shortlist of two.
Bookies make Liz Truss second favourite
Liz Truss is now the bookies’ favourite to bag the second place spot in the Conservative leadership race.
Penny Mordaunt’s odds have dramatically crashed as bookmakers think her chances of becoming PM have dropped.
Rishi Sunak is the most likely to become PM according to the bookies.
Penny Mordaunt had been the favourite – but over the last few days, she has been on the receiving end of a media attack, coordinated by some in the Tory party.
Truss and Mordaunt had been nearly level between 6-11 July according to the odds, with Mordaunt overtaking Sunak as likely leader between 11-15 July.

Tory leadership candidates face further vote as Boris Johnson holds his last cabinet
Sky News says THE LAST four runners in the Conservative leadership contest will face another round of voting later, as the party decides who will replace Boris Johnson in Downing Street.
Rishi Sunak, Penny Mordaunt, Liz Truss and Kemi Badenoch made it through Monday’s ballot to continue in the race, while Tom Tugendhat was knocked out.
But as the prospective leaders vie for the support of their fellow Tory MPs, their outgoing boss will hold his final cabinet meeting in Number 10.
Mr Johnson is expected to discuss the heatwave with his ministers – after he faced criticism for missing three emergency COBRA meetings on the matter in recent days – as well as marking the anniversary of England coming out of COVID measures.
