ChatGPT, the popular chatbot developed by OpenAI, seems to have spooked tech giants like Google.
Google’s management issued a ‘code red’ amid the launch of ChatGPT as the future of Google’s search engine becomes threatened, as reported by The New York Times reported.
The popularity of AI chatbots has sparked several meetings with Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google’s parent company, Alphabet, over the company’s AI strategy.
Pichai has reportedly directed a number of groups in the company to refocus their efforts on addressing the threat posed by ChatGPT on its search engine business, according to an internal memo and audio recording reviewed by the Times.
Google’s research, Trust and Safety division teams have been directed to focus on the development and launch of new AI prototypes and products.
Some employees have even been tasked to build AI art generators like OpenAI’s DALL-E.
Google’s shift to AI comes within weeks of the San Francisco-based company making the chatbot available for public testing.
Already over a million users have interacted with it, attracting a lot of attention.
A tool like ChatGPT could be used in real-world applications such as digital marketing, online content creation, answering customer service queries or as some users have found, even to help debug code.
The bot can respond to a large range of questions while imitating human speaking styles.
So, it’s not far-fetched that it could replace Google’s search engine one day.
