Cleaner sacked for eating left-over tuna sandwich that was destined for the bin
A single mum who was fired for eating a £1.50 Tesco tuna sandwich while at work says the way she was treated was ‘inhumane’.
Gabriela Rodriguez, 39, has been accused of theft by her cleaning contractor Total Clean, after taking the sandwich from a leftover platter at City law firm in London.
Bosses – who paid the cleaner £13.08 an hour – accused Ecuadorian-born Gabriela of taking ‘client property…without authority or reasonable excuse’.
The mum, who relocated to the UK from Spain a decade ago with her 10-year-old child Nicole, said all she did was eat a small sandwich that was probably going to end up in the bin.
