Christine McGuinness has spoken about the pressure she put on herself to spend time cooking and cleaning to show that she could be the ‘perfect wife’ to Paddy McGuinness.
Married in 2011, the couple were together for over a decade until announcing their split in July last year.
The stars have three children; twins Penelope and Leo, and Felicity.
Christine, 34, and all of her children with Paddy, 49, are autistic, with the former beauty queen now speaking about how she practised ‘masking’ to suppress her natural responses to things.
One was related to her home life, in which she held herself to the standard of practising the role of a traditional housewife.
‘I’d always wanted to be a wife so once I met Patrick, I fully went into “perfect wife” mode, you know, I’ll stay in, I’ll cook and clean and make sure I’m the best wife I can be,’ she told Psychologies magazine.

‘I was always pretending to be something else rather than simply just me, that’s all part of masking.’
In 2021, the family worked with BBC on a documentary called Paddy and Christine McGuinness: Our Family and Autism, in which Christine was diagnosed with the disorder.
In July last year, the two announced that that had separated, however, they have not yet told their children about the split.

‘We don’t want any dramatic changes overnight so it’s going to be a slow process moving forward, we don’t really know what the future holds,’ she added.
Christine also currently working on a new documentary about her own autism diagnosis, called Unmasking My Autism.
