A Tesla driver taking a child to school on Tuesday crashed through a brick wall and into a pool.
All three occupants of the electric sedan had to be rescued after the car was completely submerged in a Pasadena, California swimming pool.
Luckily, the trio were rescued when two Good Samaritans leaped into the pool. The rescuers were later identified as Jason Castellón and Troy Nalbandian, two teachers working at a nearby preschool, Pacific Oaks Children’s School.
According to the Pasadena Fire Department, the car was parked in the school’s parking lot immediately before the crash.
The car was hoisted out of the pool by a heavy duty crane later the same day.
The victims were not immediately identified, but the director of Pacific Oaks confirmed that the student attended the preschool. They were in the process of being dropped off when the crash occurred.
‘Safety is the number one priority for the Children’s School,’ Director Jack Paduntin told ABC7. He said he was ‘glad’ the employees were able to act quickly in this situation.
Pasadena Fire Battalion Chief Ted Ecklund said the employees went ‘above and beyond the call of duty.’ Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo also visited and thanked the Pacific Oaks staff members personally for their ‘heroic’ actions.
The crash happened while most of California was getting deluged by a series of ‘atmospheric river’ storms, bringing heavy rains, flash floods, and high speed winds across the Golden State.
Los Angeles County saw 4-6 inches of rainwater after days of torrential rain flooded the region. Pasadena itself saw more than 5 inches of rainfall.
Landslides and mudslides damaged portions of Hollywood Hills West and the iconic Mulholland Drive through the Santa Monica Mountains.
In Chatsworth, a massive, 50-foot wide and 30-foot deep sinkhole opened up on a highway.
California is expected to get some relief from the weather on Thursday and Friday, but storms are expected to return to the region again on Saturday.
