Chelsea told to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before next season: ‘They need someone better’

Chelsea have been told to move on from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and sign a ‘better striker’ for next season.

Aubameyang joined Chelsea on last summer’s transfer deadline day and has scored three goals in 10 appearances since his £10m move from Barcelona.

The 33-year-old thrived at Arsenal before his move to the Nou Camp at the start of 2022 but appears to be struggling to find his best form at Stamford Bridge.

As a result, Blues boss Graham Potter has at times dropped Aubameyang, choosing instead to play Kai Havertz as a false nine.

Former Chelsea and Republic of Ireland striker Tony Cascarino expects Aubameyang’s Stamford Bridge career to be short-lived and says Todd Boehly needs to look for a ‘better’ frontman.

‘I’m not even sure Aubameyang is a player Chelsea will be looking at next season,’ he told talkSPORT. ‘I think what will happen is what happened to him at Barcelona.

‘They brought him to the club, got a big signing, then realised quite quickly they need to move away to a better striker.

‘I think Chelsea will have to do that as a football club. They’ll come away from Aubameyang by the end of the season and they’ll look for an alternative without a doubt.’

Aubameyang came on for the final 30 minutes of Chelsea’s humbling 4-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton at the weekend.

Cascarino has slammed Chelsea’s performance at the Amex Stadium and says another summer signing – Marc Cucurella – looks ‘lost’ at his new club.

‘Chelsea had mistakes everywhere,’ he added. ‘It’s hard to identify one player or go for a scapegoat. The whole team were well off their pace in the game.

‘Even players like Cucurella were all over the place, he really was. He looked like he didn’t know where to be.

‘He’s a £60m signing that Chelsea have made. He may have suffered a because Graham Potter brought him off before half-time [against Manchester United] and changed systems with him.

‘He looks like a guy that’s completely lost being at a big club at the moment.’

Results at the weekend have seen Chelsea slip to sixth in the Premier League, three points outside the top-four places.
