Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is ‘very interested’ in taking over Ligue 1 club Strasbourg amid early talks, according to reports in France.
The American billionaire arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer, succeeding Roman Abramovich, and has spent over £600m on players.
Boehly sacked head coach Thomas Tuchel in September and replaced him with Graham Potter but it has not gone to plan thus far with the Blues still struggling.
The west London club are currently 10th in the Premier League table, suffered early exits from the Carabao Cup and FA Cup while in the Champions League they are 1-0 down to Borussia Dortmund in the last 16 after their first-leg meeting.
French outlet L’Equipe are now reporting that Chelsea owner Boehly has turned his attentions to acquiring more clubs and is keen on Ligue 1 side Strasbourg.
Strasbourg are currently 15th in the French top-flight and Boehly is said to have already met their president Marc Keller over a potential sale, in which he would want to acquire 100 per cent of the club.
Strasbourg – who finished sixth last season and narrowly missed out on qualification for the Europa Conference League play-off round – were founded in 1906 and play at the 26,280-capacity Stade de la Meinau.
They have won Ligue 1 once in 1979 and the Coupe de France three times, most recently in 2001.
Boehly, meanwhile, has been been involved in a number of gaffes since his arrival at Chelsea and allegedly wanted the Blues to play an impossible 4-4-3 formation.
He also spoke of his desire to introduce an American-style All-Star game earlier in the season – which would see players from the north of England take on a team from the south – which was largely ridiculed.
More recently, Potter was forced to speak out on Boehly ‘liking’ a tweet calling summer signing Marc Cucurella ‘not good enough’ for Chelsea.
