Chelsea and Manchester United both made enquiries about signing Willian on a free transfer this summer, according to reports in Brazil.
The 34-year-old made a surprise return to the Premier League last September when he signed a one-year contract with Fulham.
The Brazilian winger went on to become one of Fulham’s standout performers in the Premier League last season, scoring five goals and registering five assists in 27 appearances.
Willian was out of contract this summer and according to ESPN Brasil, United and Chelsea both held initial talks about signing him ahead of the new season.
It’s claimed that negotiations were not advanced with Chelsea and United as both clubs regarded Willian as a back-up target in their summer transfer plans.
Willian also turned down an offer to join Nottingham Forest, who avoided relegation from the Premier League last season.

‘I’m completely happy. Happy to sign one more year with Fulham,’ Willian said after signing his new deal.
‘Happy to continue the work that I did last season with all my teammates and the whole club. I think it’s a club that can do even better this season, so I’m happy to continue this amazing adventure.’
