Channel rescue: people feared dead after migrant boat incident off Kent coast
The Guardian says People who tried to cross the Channel in freezing conditions overnight are feared to have died, with a major search and rescue operation under way for a small boat off the coast of Kent. An estimated 30 people were onboard, according to the UNHCR.
HM Coastguard launched lifeboats from Dover at 3.07am on Wednesday, quickly followed by boats from Ramsgate and Hastings. An air ambulance later joined the rescue mission.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said HM Coastguard was working with the RNLI, Royal Navy, Border Force, the French navy and Kent police to look for the boat.
