New school food standards will require UK schools to reduce sweetened baked desserts and serve them with fruit, as part of initiatives to combat childhood obesity and tooth decay. These guidelines, set to take effect next September, also impose restrictions on sugary foods and mandate the inclusion of vegetables in meals.

A 24-year-old student killed more than 15 people and wounded dozens more at a Prague university on Thursday in the Czech Republic’s worst shooting in decades, before authorities said the attacker was “eliminated”.
