The winners of this year’s Rose d’Or award ceremony have been announced – and Casualty has picked up a gong.
The Rose d’Or award ceremony has been happening since 1961 and recognises excellence in programming and broadcasting.
The nominees were selected by a panel of 100 judges, with EastEnders and Casualty making it into the Soaps and Telenovela category alongside TV shows from Portugal, Canada, Brazil and France.
The award was given to Casualty this year. One of the storylines that fell under this year’s bracket was David Hide attempting to come to terms with the loss of his son, Ollie (Harry Collett), who died after taking part in a mass school shooting with his friend.
Jason Durr, who portrays David Hide, said: ‘We have a fantastic team bringing our stories to the screen…everyone who works tirelessly year-round on this BBC flagship show would like to say, Rose d’Or, merci beaucoup, for this incredibly prestigious award. We are all truly honoured, it means the world to us.’
Jason will soon say goodbye to his role as David, after he confirmed on social media that he had hung up his scrubs.

He wrote: ‘After 6 yrs playing the wonderfully complex #NurseDavidHide @bbccasualty I’ve hung up my scrubs. I’ve forged firm friendships, learnt to pronounce Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty & had my squeamishness thoroughly challenged! Here’s to new adventures (with less blood & guts).’
It is not currently known just when David’s exit will air, but producer Jon Sen has confirmed his and George Rainsford’s (Ethan Hardy) departures are being seen as breaks, meaning they won’t be killed off.
Other winners for the Rose d’Or Award included Yasmin Finney from Netflix’s Heartstopper and the BBC One documentary The Real Mo Farrah, which looked at the truth about his childhood and the journey he made from Somaliland to the UK, and his success at the 2012 Olympics.
