Cardiff: Two teenage boys killed in crash before Ely riot
Following a tragic crash that claimed the lives of two teenage boys, a riot erupted in Cardiff, resulting in several injured police officers.
Approximately 100-150 individuals gathered at the scene in Ely, where cars were set on fire and fireworks were hurled at the police. South Wales Police clarified that social media rumours suggesting police involvement in the crash were not true, affirming that officers arrived at the scene after the accident occurred.
The connection between the crash and the ensuing disorder remains unclear, according to Alun Michael, South Wales’ Police and Crime Commissioner. He further stated that up to 12 officers sustained injuries during the disturbance on Snowden Road on Monday night.
The police force expressed condolences to the families of the two deceased boys and offered support to those affected by the subsequent disorder. Several individuals have been apprehended, with more expected to be arrested in due course, as stated by a police spokesperson.
