Cardiff riots: Killed teenagers not chased, say police
Alun Micheal, South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner has said the two teenage boys who died in an electric bike crash in Cardiff were not being pursued by the police at the time of their crash, despite the rumours in the area, which led to the riots in Cardiff.
Kyrees Sullivan, 16, and Harvey Evans, 15 died on Monday evening following a crash on Snowden Road, Ely.
Michael had previously denied a police chase involving the teenagers, but CCTV footage later emerged showing a police van following a bike about half a mile from the crash site just minutes before the incident took place.
In response to the rumours the teenagers were being chased by police, riots erupted in Ely, with cars set on fire and fireworks launched at cops. But Commissioner Micheal has once again attempted to assure the public the youths were not being chased by police at the time of the incident.
South Wales Police confirmed that there were no police vehicles on Snowden Road during the crash and stated that they were analyzing the CCTV footage and tracking data from the police vehicle.
The incident has now prompted an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) to determine if an independent investigation is required.
