Call Of Duty: WWII – apparently Sledgehammer is bringing back a mode only ever seen in Call Of Duty: WWII for this year’s entry (Picture: Activision)
New rumours for Modern Warfare 3 suggest Sledgehammer Games is bringing back the classic minimap and an old game mode.
Activision has yet to say anything about this year’s Call Of Duty entry, so far only sharing it with NBA players. With how much info has leaked about it, though, it feels like it may as well have been formally announced already.
The new Call Of Duty is widely assumed to be Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, albeit with Sledgehammer Games developing it instead of Infinity Ward, and will launch this November.
Some actual screenshots from the game leaked online last month and now even more alleged details have surfaced, including rumours of Modern Warfare 3 bringing back a mode from 2017’s Call Of Duty: WWII, which Sledgehammer also developed.
The mode in question is simply called War mode, which featured its own maps and had two competing teams complete different objectives. For example, one team would try to plant bombs while the opposing team had to stop them.
This comes from Twitter user BobNetworkUK who is cited as a reliable source by Call Of Duty website CharlieINTEL.
They also believe that weapons and playable operators from Modern Warfare 2 can be transferred to the newer game, and that the series’ classic minimap could be featured in some form.
Said minimap displays enemy players as red dots whenever they fire an unsuppressed weapon as opposed to the minimap seen in the last two Modern Warfare games where enemies would only appear if you used a UAV.
While BobNetworkUK only describes this as a rumour, CharlieINTEL believes it’s very likely since Infinity Ward (which developed the last two Modern Warfare games) is apparently the only Call Of Duty studio that’s ‘against the classic mini map.’

Other well-known Call Of Duty leakers like CoD_Perseus and Task Force Leakers 141 have also been sharing screenshots of weapons seen in Modern Warfare 3.
All this suggests that people have been able to access a private Modern Warfare 3 alpha test though this also means some details are subject to change before the full game launches.
