Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – move over Smash Bros., Call Of Duty lets Nicki Minaj shoot Homelander in the head (pic: Activision Blizzard)
No less than three real world hip-hop artists will be playable in Call Of Duty season 5, but so will a certain tomb-raiding treasure hunter.
Just as was rumoured, musicians Nicki Minaj and 21 Savage are set to join Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call Of Duty: Warzone as new operator skins for season 5.
Their inclusion is apparently to celebrate 50 years of hip-hop music (at least that’s what Activision says anyway) but given how much Call Of Duty has been aping Fortnite with its eclectic crossover cameos, adding real-world celebrities to the shooter series isn’t particularly surprising anymore.
What is somewhat surprising, though, is that Sony, in a separate announcement, has announced that season 5 will also be adding Tomb Raider star Lara Croft as a playable character.
This detail isn’t mentioned anywhere in Activision’s rundown of what to expect from season 5 and Sony only dedicates a single line to Lara’s inclusion over on the PlayStation Blog.
‘Play as the legendary treasure hunter and video game icon Lara Croft in a new operator bundle arriving in the mid-season,’ is all it says.
There are no screenshots of how she’ll look in Call Of Duty, so it’s unclear if they’re using her classic design or her more modern appearance from the Square Enix reboot.

Since Sony’s the only one to mention this, perhaps Lara will be a PlayStation exclusive. Although that’d be a bit weird considering Tomb Raider isn’t a PlayStation property and has been multiplatform for years.
Regardless, Lara won’t arrive until midway through the season alongside 21 Savage, whose in-game appearance is also being kept a mystery for the time being.
As for Nicki Minaj, she’s hilariously not dressed for a military shootout, although Call Of Duty abandoned any sense of realism a long time ago. It doesn’t sound like she’ll be available from the start of the season, but presumably you won’t have to wait too long for her addition.
