Financial Times – Britain’s slide into recession creates another big election hurdle for Sunak 

The Financial Times leads on the news Britain has slide into a recession, noting the economy shrank 0.3% in the last quarter. The paper suggests it’s a blow to the prime minister’s promise of growth – and in an election year, it will prove to be another hurdle facing the Conservative party. 

News of the recession means there is now less room for tax cuts. 

The paper went to print before confirmation of the by-election losses to Labour – another major blow for the government. 

Elsewhere, the front page features an image from Rafah – as a hospital in Gaza has been raided by Israeli soldiers and patients forced to flee.
