Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has shared an update on Youri Tielemans’ future with the star midfielder linked with Arsenal and Newcastle.
Since moving to Leicester in 2019, Tielemans has been considered one of the best centre-midfielders in the Premier League, helping the Foxes win the FA Cup in 2021.
That has made him the subject of much interest over the years with Arsenal especially keeping tabs on him.
Though the form of Martin Odegaard, Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey means that that interest has cooled somewhat, the 25-year-old’s contract situation may see them make a fresh offer for the player.
Tielemans has entered the last six months of his contract and, at the time of writing, he doesn’t appear to have much interest in staying at a Leicester side that is struggling down in 13th place.
This will be of good news to Arsenal who may look to snap the Belgium international up on a free, which would be a great bit of business given how the Foxes were previously wanting upwards of £40milllion.
The Gunners may face competition for his signature, with Newcastle also said to be very keen on adding him to their squad in January as they push for an unlikely Champions League spot.

However, according to Rodgers, Leicester have absolutely no plans to sell their star player this month and are planning to do everything possible to tie Tielemans down to a new deal.
‘It has gone on for a while, but it’s all based around the player, ultimately,’ the manager said in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Foxes’ clash with Fulham on Tuesday night.
‘His commitment is no less now to what it was when I first came in – if not even more. He’s loved his time here and is still loving his time here.
‘I respect that he’s in his last year, of course I want to tie him down. He’s been a brilliant player for this club and is still at a great age. It’s something that has to be right for all parties.
‘Until I’m told he’s not here, we work very well together. He’s a coach’s dream, with his professionalism and view of the game.
‘Nothing changes for me in that aspect, we just continue to hopefully find a resolution to it and have him sign here. I think it’s one where we want to do everything we can to convince him to stay.’
