Boy and girl charged with murdering trans teen
Two 15-year-olds – a boy and girl, have been charged with the murder of trans teenager Brianna Ghey – a 16-year-old girl found stabbed to death in a park in Cheshire.
The cops had been given extra time to question the teenagers, they were then charged with murder.
Brianna’s family said she was a “much loved daughter, granddaughter, and baby sister”.
The two teenagers – the girl from Warrington and the boy from Leigh are due to appear at Chester Magistrates’ Court later.
Police initially said there was no evidence the stabbing death was a hate crime, but on Tuesday, cops say all lines of inequities were “being explored,” including hate crime.
Tributes paid to Brianna Ghey
Following the murder, vigils have popped up across the country to honour the memory of Ghey.
Candlelit vigils, organised by members of the transgender community were held on Tuesday in Liverpool and Bristol.
More vigils are set to take place around the UK later this week – including Manchester, Glasgow and Leeds.
Brianna’s family, who are from Birchwood in Warrington, said she was “beautiful, witty and hilarious”.
They said she was “strong, fearless and one of a kind” with a “larger-than-life character”.
“The loss of her young life has left a massive hole in our family”, they added.
Brianna Ghey was found by members on the public on Saturday just after 15:00 GMT.
A post-mortem is underway to establish the exact cause of death.
Since the death, extra police patrols have been sent to the area.
Donations via a GoFundMe page, set up for Brianna’s family, have passed £85,000.
