Billionaire tech banker in China reported missing
Boa Fan – a high-profile billionaire, has gone missing, his company has reported.
Boa is the boss of China Renaissance Holdings. He has been unreachable in recent days according to the company.
He is a leading deal broker in China whose clients include tech companies Didi and Meituan.
The announcement has renewed worries about a potential Beijing crackdown on finances and tech figures.
Shares in the investment firm plunged after the news of his disappearance was shared. Shareholders were told the company had “been unable to contact Mr Bao Fan”.
The company has not shared how long Mr Bao has been missing, but Caixin cited sources saying staff had not been able to contact him for the last two days.
Caixin also reported the firm’s president, Cong Lin, had been taken by authorities last September over his previous work at the state-owned ICBC bank.
The disappearance of Bao once again highlights a history of Chinese executives suddenly vanishing for periods of time with no explanation.
At least half a dozen billionaires in the past few years have disappeared for periods after reported run-ins with the Communist Party, according to Forbes Magazine.
