Financial Times – Biden pulls out of White House race and endorses Harris as his successor
Joe Biden’s exit also makes the front page of the Financial Times. The paper highlights his statement saying it was “in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down”.
The front page also reports on the Dhaka unrest after violence erupted in Bangladesh over the job quotas rule. Young people have been protesting after the rule to give a third of public sector jobs had been reserved for the relatives of veterans from the country’s war for independence from Pakistan in 1971. More than 100 people have died and many arrested. A top court has now scrapped the rule and says just 5% of the roles will be reserved for veterans’ relatives.
There is also a report on Google co-founder Sergey Brin who is bankrolling the development of a hallucinogen derived from a rainforest shrub for use as a mental health treatment.
