Today it was announced that Made.com has gone into administration, leading to the loss of up to 600 jobs.
The furniture retailer struggled during the pandemic and as a result of the cost of living crisis, with customers cutting back on big ticket purchases or shopping with competitors who offer lower prices.
It’s believed Next will buy the brand name and website, meaning it isn’t necessarily the end for Made. However, it may not be the utopia of plush velvet, rattan, and clean, Scandi lines it once was.
If you were a fan of the company’s homeware, its situation may leave you at a bit of a loose end. After all, where else will you get on-trend pieces that make your rented flat look habitable?!
Thankfully, though, there are plenty of online furniture stores that also allow you to shop for your home from the comfort of it, having all your buys delivered right to your door.
You may even find you manage to nab similar items to those on offer at Made.com at a fraction of the price. Here’s where to shop the best homeware online now.
Dunelm
This Anya dining table is £579 (Picture: Dunelm)
You may have seen Dunelm stores in shopping parks across the country, but you can buy the brand’s extensive range of homeware online too.
From storage containers for your cupboards to larger items like seating and tables, everything is competitively priced and available for home delivery or to pick up in stores.
There’s no set aesthetic to the products on offer, so you’ll find something to suit your tastes after a bit of digging.
Argos
At £675, this Chesterfield sofa is a steal (Picture: Argos)
Argos is the home of Habitat, so you can get Made.com dead ringers across furniture and home accessories. Brands like Silentnight, Russell Hobbs, Julian Bowen and many more are also available.
The beauty is, you can get everything from kitchen appliances to kids’ toys all in one go, delivered to you or to be picked up from an Argos or Sainsbury’s.
As the proud owner of a green velvet sofabed from Habitat at Argos (that’s often mistaken for a Made one) I can confirm the quality and speedy shipping.
Anthropologie
The range at Anthropologie is eclectic and fun (Picture: Anthropologie)
Although on the pricier end of the scale, Anthropologie is always a winner for unique investment pieces – the velvet console table pictured, for example, will set you back almost £2,500.
Bargains may be few and far between, but this eclectic store is packed with buys that make a statement, meaning you don’t need to go big on decor accessories for a luxe feel.
When it comes to these accessories, though, Anthropologie is reasonable, with gift sets and stocking fillers also on offer for under £10.

George at Asda
Cosy bedding at affordable prices… what more could you want? (Picture: George)
Whether it’s bedding or bedside tables you’re after, George at Asda has you covered – although it’s best for smaller items and baby furniture.
The seasonal drops are bang on trend; a particular highlight being its quirky glassware (so display-worthy you won’t want to hide it in the cupboard), super cosy soft furnishings in a range of colours and prints, and modern bathroom accessories.
Prices are affordable, with duvet sets from just £7 and towels from 75p.
Oliver Bonas

If you want something to brighten up your home, Oliver Bonas is the place to go.
You will pay more than at some home retailers, but the designs are so distinctive it’s worth the extra if you have your heart set on something.
The British brand is known for pastel and metallic decor accessories that add the finishing touch to a room, from wall art to tableware.

Aldi
The trick is regularly checking the website for finds (Picture: Aldi)
You may not have thought to look to Aldi for homeware, but the Specialbuys edit can be a real treasure trove.
The trick is to regularly check the supermarket’s website, as stock is limited so once it’s gone it’s gone (some products, like the Hotel Collection candles, are year-round).
Right now you can nab the pictured wall shelf reduced to £9.99, a storage trunk set for £29.99, or a chic full length grid mirror for £99.99.

Graham and Green
Shop local (Picture: Graham and Green)
Graham and Green is a UK family business that stocks quirky interiors, with larger purchases like sofas alongside cool lighting, rugs, and decorative accessories.
A scroll through website will result in your eye being caught, whether it’s by a monkey-shaped lamp or a rustic woven toilet roll holder. If you prefer the minimalist look, however, neutral and simple pieces are also available.
Price-wise it varies, but the Clearance sale is worth a look to get the look you want for less.
Wayfair
Get this trolley for just £89.99 (Picture: Wayfair)
When shopping at Wayfair, you need to be prepared to dig through the plethora of items on offer; some good, some not so.
That said, if you have the patience, it has some great finds.
Prices vary depending on the supplier, but are largely in line with what you’d get elsewhere. If you like variety, this store’s for you.
