If you’d spent more than the average Brit makes a month on an advent calendar, you’d probably expect to be showered in luxury all December long.
But if the reaction to Dior’s £2,800 offering is anything to go by, that isn’t always the case.
Influencer Jackie Aina has been sharing daily unboxing videos of the La Collection Privée Trunk of Dreams calendar on TikTok, showing followers what’s behind each door.
The response hasn’t been a positive one, with followers of the 35-year-old makeup guru describing the contents as ‘weak’ and ‘an insult’ in relation to the steep price.
At £2,800 for UK customers and $3,500 in the US, the limited edition calendar is made with canvas-lined wood, with sketches by Pietro Ruffo and 24 drawers.
The Dior website states that behind each of these drawers you’ll find a ‘creation from La Collection Privée Christian Dior,’ including an exclusive numbered scented ornament.
Although a rundown of what’s inside is available from the brand, certain additions (or lack of) came as a shock to TikTokers.
On days one to five, Jackie unveiled some miniature soaps, sample-sized fragrances, and a scented candle. The YouTuber’s jaw visibly dropped, however, when she opened the sixth drawer to find the silver lid to the candle she’d received the day prior.
‘Um okay,’ she said, laughing. ‘A lid to the candle… Whatever that means.’

Her fans were not impressed, with one commenting: ‘WAIT. Excuse me, they dedicated a whole advent calendar day for a lid for your candle?’
‘I’m deeply offended at the lid Dior,’ added another. ‘That’s freaking wild.’
The number of mini gifts also ruffled feathers, and Jackie Aina’s verdict on day 11 was ‘it is what it is, but it ain’t that great.’
While opening one of the 7.5ml perfumes, she added: ‘I’m not gonna lie these don’t even count because – lovely scents aside – these come as a free gift with purchases if you shop on Dior.com.’
Some compared it to Chanel’s £615 offering from last year, which was dubbed ‘The Fyre Festival of advent calendars’ due to gifts like temporary tattoos and stickers.
At three times the cost, the Dior Trunk was described as ‘the most underwhelming advent calendar I’ve seen, yet… the most expensive.’

‘This calendar is giving audacity,’ said one TikToker, while another joked: ‘Door 24 better be a refund.’
The artsy presentation box received a warmer reception… but perhaps not warm enough to eclipse candle-lid-gate.
Dior has been contacted for comment.
