The BBC suspended one of its male presenters on Sunday after he was accused of spending £35,000 buying explicit images from a teenager.
Their interactions allegedly began when the young person was 17 years old.
Thousands have taken to social media to speculate on the identity of the accused presenter, with BBC personalities such as Rylan Clark, Nicky Campbell, and Gary Lineker distancing themselves from the claims.
The BBC said it first became aware of a complaint in May and then of ‘new allegations’ on Thursday.
But the family alleged ‘no one from the BBC rang them for a proper interview after the initial complaint’.
