EastEnders was the nation’s favourite soap during the festive season, not only winning the ratings war but also wracking up an impressive 23 million streams on BBC iPlayer!
The BBC One soap, which is always a TV favourite during the Christmas period, had audiences hooked over the past month, with the saga of Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) reaching a dramatic climax.
The schemer was caught out in explosive scenes which coincided with Mick Carter’s (Danny Dyer) exit scenes, as the landlord went missing at sea during a rescue mission to retrieve ex-wife Linda (Kellie Bright).
Little did he know, however, Linda had already made it to safety.
This year’s festive season proved incredibly popular with viewers at home, with EastEnders garnering an impressive 3.17 million viewers – which is even more impressive when you factor in how late the episode was transmitted!
The New Year’s Day outing proved popular too, with the out-of-slot episode receiving 3.6 million viewers, one of the highest overnight figures since mid-2021.
But it wasn’t just live viewers that were relishing their daily visits to Albert Square, as EastEnders proved very popular with online audiences too, with the soap being streamed 23 million times between December 20 and January 2.
‘What a month for @BBCEastEnders!,’ BBC Studios wrote in a tweet. ‘The residents of Walford kept audiences on @BBCiPlayer enthralled this Christmas, with over 23m total streams of the popular BBC Studios production across all episodes over the festive period.
