Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman in Batman: The Animated Series, has died aged 66.
Conroy first played Bruce Wayne in Batman: The Animated Series from 1992 to 1995, before returning for more specials as well as video games.
He most recently reprised his role in a 2019 episode of Batwoman, after featuring as his role across nearly 60 productions including 15 films.
Announcing his death, Warner Bros released: ‘Kevin was far more than an actor whom I had the pleasure of casting and directing—he was a dear friend for 30+ years whose kindness and generous spirit knew no boundaries.
‘Kevin’s warm heart, delightfully deep laugh and pure love of life will be with me forever.’
Conroy’s co-star Diane Pershing shared an emotional post on Facebook, writing: ‘Very sad news: our beloved voice of Batman, Kevin Conroy, died yesterday.
‘He’s been ill for a while but he really put in a lot of time at the cons, to the joy of all of his fans.
‘He will be sorely missed not just by the cast of the series but by his legion of fans all over the world… RIP, friend.’
Mark Hamill, who played his on-screen enemy The Joker, shared in a statement: ‘Kevin was perfection. He was one of my favorite people on the planet, and I loved him like a brother. He truly cared for the people around him – his decency shone through everything he did. Every time I saw him or spoke with him, my spirits were elevated.’
Conroy was born in New York in 1955, and studied acting at Julliard where he was actually roommates with Robin Williams.
He starred in series including Dynasty and Ohara, as well as soaps Search for Tomorrow and Another World before becoming the voice of Batman.
