A man has been arrested after a baby who became unwell and was rushed to hospital later died there.
Emergency services rushed to a property in Blaby, Leicestershire, following reports of an incident shortly after 11am last Sunday, January 15.
The infant, whose age and sex have not been confirmed, was taken to hospital and police have now confirmed the child has passed away.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm or death and has since been released on police bail.
The circumstances of how the baby became unwell and what caused the death are under investigation. Officers have urged people not to speculate.
A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: ‘A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing/allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm or death and has been released on police bail.
‘A 32-year-old woman was voluntarily interviewed under caution in connection with the incident.
‘The circumstances of this incident, how the baby became unwell, and what caused the death, are under investigation and we would ask people not to speculate about what has happened.’
