Manchester United have been tight-lipped over the club’s move to appoint Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese coach is the leading contender to replace Erik ten Hag, who was sacked on Monday following the club’s dismal start to the campaign. United have expressed an interest in paying Amorim’s £8.3m release clause but the move has been delayed due to Sporting demanding around £4.5m for his backroom staff. There is a further complication in that Amorim’s release clause includes a 30-day notice period, which means he therapeutically could have to wait until December to manage United. But, leaving Old Trafford…

The Gunners will again be without the suspended William Saliba who will also miss the visit of Chelsea on 10 November after his straight red card shown in the defeat to Bournemouth. His partner at the back Gabriel was forced off in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool following a tussle with Darwin Nunez. The Brazil international felt something in the back of his knee, initially attempting to play on before being replaced shortly…

Australian police recover 40,000 stolen Bluey coins Australian police have recovered over 40,000 limited-edition Bluey coins, stolen months before their release. In July, 63,000 coins were reported missing from a warehouse in Western Sydney. On Tuesday, authorities seized 40,061 coins in a raid just 10 km from the site, following the arrest of Christina Vale, the third person arrested over the alleged theft. The coins, valued at A$1 but selling online for ten times that, feature characters from the beloved Bluey cartoon. Police launched “Strike Force Bandit” to investigate. In August they arrested 44-year-old Steven Nielsen, who was an employee…
Diogo Jota will not be back before the November international break and Federico Chiesa is struggling to get near match fitness, reveals Liverpool manager Arne Slot. Jota picked up the problem in the win over Chelsea earlier this month and missed the draw with Arsenal on Sunday as a result. There was some hope that the Portuguese forward would be back in action as early as this weekend against Brighton in the Premier League, but Slot has ruled that out. The next international break runs from 11-22 November and asked if Jota could be back before that, Slot told a…
Former Arsenal manager ‘perfect fit’ for Man Utd, reckons Dwight Yorke Manchester United hero Dwight Yorke believes Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is the ‘perfect fit’ to become the new Red Devils boss. Erik ten Hag was dismissed from his post at Old Trafford on Monday after a nightmare start to his third season in charge. The search for a new boss does not look likely to take long as Sporting manager Ruben Amorim appears set to replace Ten Hag. The Red Devils have wasted no time and it seems as if it will just be a matter of days…
Ruben Amorim has built a reputation as one of the finest young coaches in European football since taking charge of Sporting in 2020, with fans, pundits and former team-mates falling over themselves to praise the manager. The 39-year-old now finds himself within touching distance of the Manchester United job, just the latest step in an extraordinary and meteoric rise for a special talent with the world at his feet. Sporting confirmed this afternoon that United had signalled their intention to pay Amorim’s €10million (£8.3m) release clause in full in order to secure his services at Old Trafford. Ruud van Nistelrooy…
Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo tracked by two Premier League rivals Bryan Mbeumo has emerged on the radars of Arsenal and Newcastle after a brilliant start to the season for Brentford. The Cameroon international has been impressing for the Bees since they were promoted to the Premier League in 2021 but he is enjoying easily his best campaign this time around. The 25-year-old has scored eight goals in just nine league games, including two in the dramatic 4-3 win over Ipswich on Saturday. His previous best goal tally over a Premier League season was nine, so the forward is on course to…
Stoke City condemn ‘sickening’ chants aimed at Kevin Campbell’s son Tyrese Stoke City have condemned the ‘sickening’ and ‘abhorrent’ chanting members of the club’s fanbase directed at Tyrese Campbell during the side’s clash with Sheffield United last weekend. Campbell doubled Sheffield United’s advantage against his former team – after Kieffer Moore’s early opener – and the hosts held firm to secure a comfortable 2-0 victory at Bramall Lane. But vile chanting heard amongst Stoke’s away support has somewhat overshadowed Saturday’s Championship contest, with fans targeting Campbell following the recent death of his father Kevin. The popular ex-Arsenal, Everton and West…
Enzo Maresca says he is ‘happy’ for Manchester United’s newly appointed interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy and looking forward to catching up with his old ‘friend’ when Chelsea travel to Old Trafford this weekend. United relieved Erik ten Hag of his duties after a dismal run of results at this early stage of the season and Van Nistelrooy has taken over the reins while the club consider their options. The first major challenge for Van Nistelrooy in the role comes tomorrow night when the Red Devils take on Leicester City for a place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.…
Kevin De Bruyne injury return remains a mystery to Pep Guardiola Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he remains in the dark as to when Kevin De Bruyne will return from injury, despite the midfielder being back in training. The Belgian superstar has not played since the Champions League clash with Inter Milan on 18 September and has made just four Premier League appearances so far this season. The 33-year-old is dealing with a thigh problem and Guardiola admits that it has been a slightly confusing rehabilitation for De Bruyne, who is back in training, but still is unsure when…
England manager Sarina Wiegman plans to adjust her squad for Tuesday’s friendly match against South Africa. Following a narrow 4-3 defeat to Germany at Wembley on Friday, the Lionesses are eager to regain momentum as they prepare to defend their European title in next summer’s tournament. Wiegman hinted at the inclusion of “different faces” in the lineup for the 19:45 GMT kickoff in Coventry, aiming to test various player combinations and manage playtime effectively. “I won’t reveal specifics, but you’ll see some changes,” Wiegman shared. “We want to try out different connections and see players in various roles.” Her lineup…

Emiliano Martinez became the first person to win the Yashin Trophy for the world’s best goalkeeper two years on the spin, but only after he was loudly booed on his way into the Ballon d’Or ceremony. The Aston Villa and Argentina stopper was credited as the world’s finest in his position once again after winning the Copa America over the summer. Last year he got the nod over Manchester City’s Ederson, while this time around it was Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon who finished second. ‘It’s huge for me,’ he said. ‘I always dreamed of playing one game for the national…
Mikel Merino has dismissed the idea that Arsenal’s injury problems could be an excuse for dropping points in recent weeks, saying there is actually a benefit to some players being out injured. The Gunners are third in the table, so it has hardly been a disastrous start to the season, but they have only won five of their nine Premier League matches so far. A draw with Liverpool last time out followed a shock defeat at Bournemouth and Mikel Arteta’s side are already five points behind league-leaders Manchester City. Merino, a summer signing from Real Sociedad who scored his first…
Brazilian side Palmeiras made an ambitious move for Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus, but it was firmly rejected by the Premier League side. Jesus came through the youth ranks at Palmeiras and made his professional debut for the club in March 2015. He quickly caught the eye of Manchester City and moved to the Etihad in January 2017 where he won four Premier League titles. The Brazil international was a big signing for Arsenal when they brought him in back in 2022, but after an encouraging first season things have tailed off quite badly. The 27-year-old managed just eight goals in…
Paul Scholes has questioned Manchester United’s pursuit of Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim, naming Zinedine Zidane and Xavi as his preferred options to succeed Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. United parted ways with Ten Hag on Monday with Ruud van Nistelrooy stepping in to take charge as interim boss. But the search for a permanent replacement is already underway with Amorim in talks to join the Premier League giants. The 39-year-old is thought to be interested in taking the United job, with the Portuguese one of the most highly-regarded coaches in Europe after two league titles with Sporting, also…
Ruud van Nistelrooy has deleted a historic photo of him doing ‘blackface’ just hours after confirmation of his appointment as Manchester United’s interim manager. Erik ten Hag’s reign as United manager ended on Monday following last weekend’s controversial defeat against West Ham. Van Nistelrooy returned to his former club in the summer with a view to providing additional support to his compatriot who, after being given what ultimately turned out to be a stay of execution, was equipped with a new-look backroom team. It is unclear how many games the 48-year-old will take charge of with United already pressing ahead…
Tennis bad boy Nick Kyrgios says British legend Andy Murray didn’t retire ‘gracefully’ and feels he should’ve called time on his career a lot sooner. Australian star Kyrgios, known for his explosive behaviour on the court and outspoken views off it, made the comment in a new interview with Louis Theroux. The British-American documentarian sat down with 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Kyrgios, 29, and asked him if he had been plotting to hang up his own racket. Kyrgios responded by bringing up Murray’s retirement – which occurred after the Olympic Games in Paris earlier this year – and suggested that the…
Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr has broken his silence after controversially missing out on the Ballon d’Or award. The Brazil international was considered the strong favourite to scoop the biggest individual prize in world football but Manchester City and Spain star Rodri was instead crowned the best player on the planet. A leak ahead of the ceremony on Monday night revealed Vinicius Jr had missed out on top spot with the Real Madrid delegation, which also included Jude Bellingham, cancelling their trip and missing the ceremony completely. Vinicius Jr played a pivotal role in Real Madrid’s Champions League and La…
