Ian Wright has hailed the impact of Leandro Trossard after the Belgian scored his first goal for Arsenal against Brentford.

The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw at the Emirates on Saturday after Ivan Toney equalised for the Bees 15 minutes from full-time.

After a goalless first half, Trossard struck at the back post just four minutes after coming off the bench to replace Gabriel Martinelli, latching onto Bukayo Saka’s ball to open his account for the club.

While it was a frustrating afternoon with Mikel Arteta bemoaning the Brentford equaliser he felt should have been ruled out for offside, Arsenal legend Wright was pleased with Trossard’s contribution, feeling he now provides a genuine threat off the bench with Martinelli currently struggling for form.

‘That is what is going to have to happen, you are going to need goals from other places,’ Wright told Premier League Productions.

‘It wasn’t happening for Martintelli in the first half and what you need is for something to happen off the bench and this is why he is such a good signing.

‘We know he is capable at this level. He just sneaks in at the back there and gets the goal.

‘This is a great ball from Saka, one of the few times we were able to get past them because we passed a little bit quicker, great sharp movement.

‘They defended very well but when we did that, we were able to get through.’

Arsenal remain six points clear at the top of the Premier League but Manchester City can reduce the gap to three if they beat Aston Villa on Sunday – and can go top if they beat the Gunners in a huge clash at the Emirates on Wednesday.

‘It’s always a missed opportunity I think if you were leading, especially we knew what they wanted to do,’ Trossard said.

‘We know their game plan, that they were strong on set pieces and that’s how we conceded the goal.

‘Overall we have to lift our heads up and there is a game on Wednesday, and luckily it’s quite soon and we can go at it again.’
