Newcastle United could be sweating over the fitness of Callum Wilson ahead of their must-win clash against Brighton tonight.

The in-form striker scored twice on Saturday as the Magpies were held by Leeds United at Elland Road.

Eddie Howe’s men have Manchester United and Liverpool breathing down their neck with a fortnight to go in the Premier League season.

Wilson has spearheaded Newcastle’s Champions League hopes and he’s netted 17 goals in 35 appearances this term.

However, Howe has used Wilson cautiously given his injury record, such is his importance to the squad.

Howe has started Wilson and Alexander Isak in Newcastle’s last two matches but those plans could be changed for the visit of Brighton to the north-east.

Wilson was not pictured in training on Wednesday, raising the possibility that he could miss the game against the Seagulls.

Brighton trail Newcastle by eight points but they have a game in hand on the Magpies and haven’t given up hope of a Champions League spot.

The Seagulls demolished Arsenal and their title challenge last Sunday, inflicting a 3-0 defeat on the Gunners at the Emirates.

Newcastle face Leicester City and Chelsea in their final two fixtures, as they look to return to the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.
