UK military Afghan operations killed at least 64 children
The UK government has paid out for the deaths of at least 64 children – four times more Afghan children than it had previously admitted to.
The government have paid compensation payments for the 64 kids – rather than the 16 children they’ve publicly acknowledged.
All the children were killed in fighting involving UK forces between 2006 and 2014.
Airstrikes and being caught in the crossfire were among the most common causes of death that were listed.
The new figures come from Freedom of Information requests made by the charity Action on Armed Violence (AOAV).
AOAV believe civilian deaths caused by British forces is likely to be underestimated.
They say the number of children killed could be as high as 135.
The MoD has paid out £688,000 for 289 Afghan civilian deaths between 2006-2014.
