Diego Luna has made history with his Golden Globe nomination, having been recognised for his stellar performance in the sensational Star Wars series Andor.
This year, the actor returned to the role of Cassian Andor, six years after making his debut in the sci-fi franchise in the 2016 film Rogue One.
Having won critical acclaim for his performance from fans and critics alike, the 42-year-old has now received his first ever nod at the Golden Globes, which are due to take place on January 10 in the new year.
His nomination marks a huge milestone for Star Wars, as it’s the first time in 44 years that an actor has been recognised at the awards ceremony for their performance in the franchise.
All the way back in 1978, the late Sir Alec Guinness, who played Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original trilogy, was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in the 1977 film A New Hope.
The actor, who died in 2000 at the age of 86, also received an Oscar nomination in the category for Best Supporting Actor.

Diego is now only the second Star Wars actor to be recognised at the Golden Globes, and the first from any of the TV series that have been released on Disney Plus.
The actor expressed his gratitude over the acknowledgement on Twitter.
‘Getting the news after an intense day of shooting for season 2. It means a lot. I love being part of this show and the wonderful collaboration with this team!’ he tweeted, while in the midst of filming the second season of Andor.

In another tweet translated from Spanish, the Mexican actor added: ‘Thank you very much for such nice messages. What a fortune to feel so much affection here.’
While The Mandalorian has received a Golden Globe nomination in the past, there were no nods for any of the actors in the cast, including the lead star Pedro Pascal.
The show was nominated for Best Television Series in the Drama category in 2021.
