Amy Schumer has opened up about her ‘lonely’ battle with endometriosis, almost a year after undergoing a hysterectomy and an appendectomy.
The Trainwreck actress previously revealed her diagnosis with the condition – where tissue similar to the lining of the womb begins to grow in other places – after years of pain.
She went under the knife last year in a bid to help treat the disease, and calm her symptoms, and spoke of her recovery in a new interview.
In a preview clip for The Checkup with Dr David Agus – which lands on Paramount+ today, the 41-year-old told the health expert: ‘For months I had been complaining of pain. It was just this pain you can’t see.
‘There is the inclination to always think a woman is just being dramatic.
‘It’s really a lonely, lonely disease. You tell someone you get really bad cramps, and they’re like, “Oh, being a woman,” and you’re like, “No, it’s irregular.”

‘I’ve been in so much pain my whole life – not just the week of my period, it’s during ovulation. I would hopefully get a good week a month where I wasn’t in pretty significant pain, still trying to achieve, still trying to go through life.
‘It’s been really difficult.’

Throughout all the pain, Amy has carved out a hugely successful Hollywood career – starring in a string of hit films including I Feel Pretty and Snatched, and a string of comedy specials.
She also welcomed son Gene with husband Chris Fischer in 2019, the year after they tied the knot.
Elsewhere in the Paramount+ teaser, Dr Agus asked how she is faring now, having undergone various surgeries, to which she replied: ‘I felt like a new person, it was incredible.
‘It felt like someone lifted this veil that had been over me and I just felt like a different person, like a new mom.
‘If the trade-off is that you will have a little scar on your belly button and one right next to it… I think scars are cool!’
Amy has been praised by many for being so vocal about her health issues, and previously explained that she wanted to highlight her battles to help others.

The star posted a video shortly after waking up from her surgery last year, telling fans: ‘The doctor found 30 spots of endometriosis, and he removed my appendix because the endometriosis had attacked it.
‘There was a lot of blood in my uterus. I’m sore and I have some gas pains but, other than that, I already feel that my energy…’
Her footage ended there but she captioned the post: ‘If you have really painful periods you may have #endometriosis.’
