More strike action is on the way (Picture: Yui Mok/PA)
Though several unions have managed to settle their disputes with employers, there are still strikes on the cards for various industries in June 2023.
Ambulance workers, airport employees, and passport staff are just some of the workers to take industrial action recently, with many other sectors also striking over the last year in disputes over pay and working conditions.
Many unions are now balloting on strike action, as the law requires trade unions to secure a new mandate for walkouts every six months – which recently led to the government successfully taking the nurse’s college to court.
So who is currently due to strike in June 2023?
Here is what you need to know
Train drivers
ASLEF (The Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen) is set to have its members walk out on one day in June.
A number of train operating companies are likely to be affected, including Avanti West Coast, Great Western Railway, Southeastern, and more.

ASLEF represent 96% of train drivers, meaning the rail network will likely see significant disruption on strike dates. The union accuses managers of failing to make a fair pay offer.
in addition to this RMT members working for 14 train companies will stage a fresh strike on June 2.
RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: ‘The government is once again not allowing the Rail Delivery Group to make an improved offer that we can consider.
‘Therefore, we have to pursue our industrial campaign to win a negotiated settlement on jobs, pay and conditions.
Ministers cannot just wish this dispute away.
‘The government now needs to unlock the RDG and allow them to make an offer that can be put to a referendum of our members.’
Current June strike dates: Friday, June 2, 2023 and Saturday, June 3, 2023.
Civil servants
The PCS (The Public and Commercial Services Union) represents government workers and contractors.
Members of the PCS working in Personal Taxation Operations (East Kilbride and Benton Park View) will be on strike for two days at the start of June.
A new ballot on PCS strike action ends today (May 9) with PCS General Secretary Mark Serwotka saying: ‘We’re sending a very clear signal to ministers that we’re not backing down in the pursuit of a fair deal for our members.
‘The pressure is building on ministers. They’re being forced to talk to us, to listen to our concerns, and they now know we’re looking at escalating our strike action beyond May unless they make concessions.

Junior doctors
The union representing junior doctors has announced a 72-hour walkout in response to the ‘paltry’ 5% pay increase offered by the government.
The British Medical Association (BMA) said they will strike in England from June 14-17 in a bid to force ministers ‘to put forward a credible’ salary rise.
Dr Vivek Trivedi and Dr Robert Laurenson, co-chairs of the BMA Junior Doctors Committee, said: ‘,..we are in a position where we must call new industrial action.
‘We are today announcing that junior doctors in England will hold another 72-hour full walkout between [7am] on Wednesday 14 June and [7am] on Saturday 17 June.’
Current strike dates: Wednesday, June 14 to Saturday, June 17
Who else could go on strike in June 2023?
The Royal College of Nursing recently announced that, though several other health unions were accepting a pay rise, the RCN remained in dispute with the government.
In a letter to Health Secretary Steve Barclay, RCN General Secretary & Chief Executive Pat Cullen said: ‘Despite today’s meeting and the outcome that reflects the votes across all unions, the RCN remains in formal dispute with the government and the NHS over pay levels.’
NUJ (National Union of Journalists) members in Northern Ireland have alsorecently voted for industrial action over job losses and changes of programming at Radio Foyle and will be taking industrial action.
