Alexis Mac Allister’s father is expecting his son to have ‘possibilities’ in the transfer market this summer, but knows it will take a huge bid to encourage Brighton to let him go.
The 24-year-old was enjoying a growing reputation at the Seagulls, but that steady growth exploded in Qatar as he won the World Cup with Argentina.
The midfielder became a key target for huge clubs and will be so in the summer, with the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal interested, while others across Europe will also be monitoring the situation.
Champions League clubs will fancy their chances of tempting Mac Allister away from Brighton, but he signed a new contract before the World Cup so will not come cheap.
Carlos Mac Allister says that the new deal was put in place so Brighton can get the highest possible price for his son, so they are expecting bids to come in, but they will have to be vast to be successful.
‘For now, he is at Brighton,’ Carlos told TyC Sports. ‘It seems to me a very good thing that he has returned from the World Cup and has not despaired about leaving, enjoying success calmly and in peace, in a team that loves him very much. The reception he received has been the best. He is very well in the club
‘We all know that in July there will be possibilities to be able to leave. But prior to the World Cup, Alexis renewed his contract so that the club also has the opportunity of an important transfer, so that a lot can reach Brighton. It is the idea.’
Speaking last month, Mac Allister said he is no hurry at all to leave Brighton, telling Sky Sports: ‘I’m focused on Brighton. I’m really happy here, I enjoy every day.
‘They know how grateful I am to this club and I don’t have any rush to leave.’
