Alejandro Garnacho’s superb winning goal against Fulham on Sunday reminded Gary Neville of Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous strike at the same ground 15 years ago.
Garnacho came off the bench and scored a memorable goal to secure three points for the Red Devils, his first ever Premier League goal.
The 18-year-old is quickly gaining a reputation as an extremely bright talent after also impressing and scoring in the Europa League this season.
Neville is not quite talking about the teenager in the same breath as Ronaldo, but the quality of his goal, along with it being a late winner at Craven Cottage had the Sky Sports pundit thinking of the Portuguese superstar and the late winner he scored way back in February 2007.
‘He’s got something about him, there’s no doubt about that. Bad attitude or not, he can play,’ said the former full-back. ‘Hes brought real energy since he’s come on that left hand side.
‘The speed, the one-two [with Christian Eriksen] and the finish is class. I remember Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a goal, a solo goal from that side many, many years ago that won Manchester United a game here, but not as late as this.’
United captain Bruno Fernandes has said that Garnacho has been a bit slow to break into the first team due to his attitude, but Neville feels he is bringing an arrogance and swagger to the team which he will need to succeed.
‘If you’re a young player at Manchester United and you’re a forward you’ve got to have arrogance, to to have ego and he looks like he’s got that, and passion as well,’ he said.
‘He’s just delivered a moment of absolute brilliance. The hero is Garnacho.’
