Ajax midfielder Steven Berghuis threw a punch at a supporter after his side’s 3-1 defeat to FC Twente on Sunday.
The Netherlands international appeared to be angered by someone in the crowd as he went to board Ajax’s team bus.
After swinging a punch, a security guard standing by the bus stepped in to usher Berghuis away from the confrontation.
According to Dutch newspaper Tubantia, Berghuis lashed out after a supporter said a racist comment towards his Ajax teammate Brian Brobbey.
Berghuis came on as a second-half substitute against his former club, while the 3-1 defeat confirmed that Ajax have finish third in the Eredivisie.
Eredivisie champions Feyenoord have secured an automatic Champions League place, while runners-up PSV must progress through the qualifiers to reach the group stage of the competition.
