The number of people waiting more than 12 hours in A&E departments in England has risen above 50,000 for the first time.
NHS England data shows that in December 54,532 people waited longer than 12 hours to be admitted after a decision had been made to see them. The figure is up 44.1% from 37,837 in November and the highest total in records dating back to August 2010.
