His return to Waterloo Road allowed him to work with his young son on screen, but Adam Thomas has revealed they very nearly didn’t get the chance to act alongside each other.
From 2009-2018 the actor played Adam Barton on the soap, eventually leaving after eight years.
With the show’s reboot, he is now back as Donte, who suffered tragedy in the first episode when his childhood sweetheart Chlo Charles (Katie Griffiths) died.
Now he’s left as a single father, their children Izzie and Teddy, who are played by his niece Scarlett and son Teddy.
However, when appearing on Loose Women on Wednesday, Adam said while he loved being able to work with family, his son wasn’t actually cast at first.
Sharing a video when telling Teddy he had got the role, the young actor was clearly caught off guard and buried his face in his hands and started laughing and crying.

‘Moments like that. You can’t buy,’ Adam said to the panel.
‘To be able to give my son the news like that…he didn’t originally get the part in the first place,’ he added.
‘I had to tell him he didn’t get the part and then unfortunately the other actor couldn’t do it so they had to give the part to Teddy, I got to tell him.’

Adam said he was incredibly proud of his son and said he was ‘super talented’.
‘He has a heart of gold and he really is a good kid. I am a very proud father.’
In the interview Adam also spoke about how he loved getting to work with his family every day after getting to return to the set.
