Aaron Ramsdale’s strange celebration following Bukako Saka’s goal in Arsenal’s win over Manchester United has been explained.
Saka registered a stunning goal from outside the box to put Arsenal 2-1 up at the Emirates and goalkeeper Ramsdale was spotted giving himself a curtains hairstyle.
Many were puzzled by Ramsdale’s choice of celebration at Saka’s goal but it has since been revealed that it was due to a commitment he made on a podcast.
England international Ramsdale appeared on the The Fellas comedy podcast in the build-up to the clash – hosted by YouTube stars Callum Airey and Josh Larkin, who are better known online as Calfreezy and TheBurntChip.
‘Give me something when we win this weekend, give me something to [do during the game],’ Ramsdale said on the podcast. ‘I’ll give you a little something!’
Calfreezy replied: ‘Okay, I’ve got you, I’ve got you… We just pulled up the curtains [haircut] picture… I need you to do [it]…. yeah, yeah, yeah… like this!’
Ramsdale then said: ‘I’ll do that!’
‘That would be so f****** funny,’ Calfreezy added, before TheBurntChip jumped in and said: ‘That will make my day!’
The Gunners went on to record a 3-2 victory to go five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand.
Arsenal star Oleksandr Zinchenko spoke to the BBC following the clash and said: ‘I love this winning, you know? The winning feeling in the last minute, the last second. It’s something you cannot describe.
‘Today was unbelievable. I need to match it again before I go to bed because these are the magic moments.
‘Some guys told me that [the winning goal which was checked by VAR] was so tight but on the pitch you don’t see it clearly. I just wanted to enjoy that moment.
‘Afterwards when the referee is checking with VAR, the stadium didn’t breathe for 10 seconds. Then when the goal was given the reaction was top.’
